从1823年这条圣诞歌已经唱了近两百年，相信还会一直唱下去。歌颂主耶稣基督的降生，为普天下的人们带来了福音，让我们从罪的捆绑中解放，靠着信得到真正的自由和生命。
耶稣母亲玛丽亚还是童女的时候从圣灵受孕，耶稣诞生在伯利恒的一个马槽中。虽然祂是万王之王，虽然万物都是藉着祂造的，祂来不是为了做王，而是为了执行那差祂来着的意思：拯救罪人。
耶稣诞生的时候，有天使来报佳音，最早听到佳音的是贫穷的牧羊人，三个研究星相的博士一路跟随星星，来到伯利恒寻找那来拯救万民的赎罪者，献上他们最好的礼物。
